Rahul Gandhi, during his remarks in Maharashtra on Sunday, expressed concerns about the functioning of EVMs, using the Hindi word ‘Shakti’ to highlight the Opposition’s struggle against the power of the state.
“In Hindi, there is a word ‘Shakti’ (might). We are battling against a ‘Shakti’ (might of the state). The question arises, what is this ‘Shakti’ and what does it mean for us? The essence and integrity of EVMs have been compromised to favor the King (Modi). This is a reality. It’s not just EVMs; every independent institution of the country, whether it’s the ED, CBI, or Income Tax department, has surrendered its autonomy to the Centre,” Rahul Gandhi stated in an address in Mumbai.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about “fighting against shakti,” labeling them as expressing ‘misogynistic’ views.
Poonawalla claimed that several members of the INDI alliance have criticized Hindu Dharma, equating Ramcharitmanas to potassium cyanide. He accused the Congress Party of a longstanding animosity towards Hinduism, citing instances such as denying the existence of Lord Ram and making derogatory statements about Shakti. Poonawalla particularly condemned Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks in front of Uddhav Thackeray, alleging they not only insult Hindu beliefs but also reflect a misogynistic attitude opposed to NariShakti.
