The Central Government has made a significant announcement to reduce the petrol and diesel prices in Lakshadweep, India. Prices have been slashed immensely by Rs 15.3 per liter for Andrott and Kalpeni Islands, and by Rs 5.2 per liter for Kavaratti and Minicoy Islands. This reduction brings petrol to Rs 100.75/liter and diesel to Rs 95.71/liter all across Lakshadweep. This reduction follows a nationwide Rs 2 per liter drop in fuel prices announced the previous day, just before the Lok Sabha election date announcement by the Election Commission.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri took to social media to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering the people of Lakshadweep as family. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed the price cut, attributing it to the removal of a Rs 6.90 per liter charge included in fuel prices to recover capital expenditure at Lakshadweep Islands’ depots. This charge had been in place for three years but has now been removed after the completion of capital recovery.
In New Delhi, petrol now costs Rs 94.72 per liter, while in Mumbai it’s Rs 104.21, in Kolkata Rs 103.94, and in Chennai Rs 100.75 per liter.
