Pashupati Kumar Paras, who held the position of Minister of Food Processing Industries in the Union cabinet, severed ties with the NDA and submitted his resignation from the union cabinet on Tuesday. The Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) leader was discontented with the BJP leadership’s approach to seat-sharing in Bihar for the Lok Sabha elections, stating that his party’s interests were not given proper consideration. He urged the BJP leadership to reassess its decision.

“I have submitted my resignation. While I remain grateful to the Prime Minister, I feel my party and I have been treated unfairly,” he stated. Pashupati Kumar Paras, who is Chirag Paswan’s uncle and the brother of the late Ram Vilas Paswan, has represented the Lok Sabha constituency of Hajipur since 2019.

Paras mentioned that his party has upheld its alliance with the BJP thus far. “We will wait for the BJP’s official announcement of candidates before making any further decisions,” he added. These comments from Paras come two days after Paswan declared that his party had reached a seat-sharing agreement with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, addressing all his concerns.

NDA settled on its seat-sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. It was declared that the BJP would compete in 17 constituencies, the JD(U) in 16, and Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) in five. Raju Tiwari, the Bihar LJP (Ram Vilas) chief, revealed that Chirag Paswan would run for the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, allocated to the party as per the seat-sharing agreement for the 2024 polls.
