New Delhi: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has put his millitary on high alert to fight US Army whom the former accused of invading the country through “frantic” naval exercises
with allies near South Korea, state media reported
There have been a number of joint drills between US and South Korea that appears to abe an invasion rehersal to the North Korea.
On the North Korea’s Navy Day, Kim said the waters off the Korean Peninsula had become unstable “with the danger of a nuclear war” due to US-led hostilities, official Korean Central News Agency reported.
The US and South Korean militaries began an 11-day joint exercise on August 21.
The annual Ulchi Freedom Shield training is a computer-simulated command exercise but this year, they included field exercises too.
North Korea vs US-South Korea
North Korea often responds to US-South Korean military exercises with missile tests of its own. The country’s most recent known weapons test was last Thursday’s failed second spy satellite launch. On the day the drills began, KCNA said Kim observed the test-fire of a strategic cruise missile.
Since the beginning of 2022, North Korea has conducted more than 100 weapons tests, many of which involved a nuclear-capable missile designed to strike the United States as well as other parts of the world along with the latter’s allies Korea and Japan.
Many experts believe that North Korea ultimately wants to use its enhanced military capabilities to win larger concessions from the United States.
In July, the US deployed a nuclear submarine to South Korea for the first time in four decades.
US, South Korea and Japan
A series of North Korean tests have forced the United States and South Korea to expand exercises, resume trilateral training with Japan’s participation.
