New Delhi: Amid the Opposition’s boycott of the inauguration of new Parliament building, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati welcomed the Centre’s decision that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should dedicate the building.

She said, “Whether it was the government of the Congress party at the Center before or now of the BJP, the BSP has always supported them on issues related to the country and public interest, rising above party politics…”

“… and the party also supported the inauguration of the new building of the Parliament on May 28. Looking at it in this context, it is welcomed,” said Mayawati.

The BSP supremo aimed the Opposition parties who announced to skip the inauguration ceremony. “Boycott is unfair for not inaugurating the new Parliament by President Draupadi Murmu. The government has made it, so it has the right to inaugurate it,” wrote Mayawati in a series of posts on Twitter.

“It is also unfair to link this with tribal women’s respect. He should have thought of this while fielding a candidate against him instead of electing him unopposed,” read the post.

New Parliament Building Row: But due to my pre-scheduled engagement…

However, she added, Mayawati will not be able to attend the ceremony due to continuous meetings.

“I have received the invitation for the program dedicated to the country i.e. the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House, for which I thank and extend my best wishes. But due to my pre-scheduled engagement regarding the continuous review meetings of the party, I will not be able to attend that function,” said Mayawati.
