New Delhi: The Mumbai sessions court Tuesday acquitted two accused in the 2002 Best Bakery case of Gujarat in which a number total of 14 people were killed in a mob attack. The accused were Harshad Solanki and Mafat Gohil.

The Best Bakery in Vadodara was burned down to ashes on March 1, 2002 by a mob of over thousands of people. The attack was symbolic to Godhra Train incident same year.

After the incident, duaghter of the Best Bakery’s owner Zaheera Sheikh had filed a complaint against 21 people alleging that the mob targeted the Muslim family who used to reside there.

The matter was going on in Gujarat court who freed all accused citing no evidence available. Later the matter was taken to the Gujarat High Court.

After this, the Supreme Court in 2004 filed a review petition and the matter was posted to Maharashtra. The Special Court of Maharashtra had convicted 9 people in the matter.

Earlier, on December 13, the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) had issued a circular directing all government, government-aided, and recognised private schools under DOE, NDMC, MCD, and Delhi Cantonment Board to conduct classes in a hybrid mode for students up to Class IX and XI.
