New Delhi: The Manipur government on Thursday issued Shoot at Sight orders “in extreme cases” after the violence broke out in several districts of the state.

The order was issued to all District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and all Executive Magistrates/Special Executive Magistrates to issue Shoot at sight orders “in extreme cases whereby all forms of persuasion, warning, reasonable force etc has been exhausted.”

The law and order situation in the state deteriorated on Wednesday when a clashes broke out at several districts, leaving the houses and other properties burning all night.

The help was sent immediately with the Indian running rescue operations overnight, in which it successfully evacuated nearly 75,000 civilians.

The incident took place during the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ called by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbung area of Churachandpur district.

The rally was called over the order of Manipur High Court last month that directed the BJP government to consider the inclusion of Meitis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).
