Anurag Thakur appeals oppositions join discussion

New Delhi: As the businesses in both houses of parliament remained disrupted over the ethnic crisis in Manipur, Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday requested Opposition parties with ‘folded hands’ to join the discussion over the matter.

Thakur condemned the atrocities against women reported in Manipur, Bihar, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. He also urged political parties to not politicise such incidents and to have a discussion on them instead.

“Abuse against women in any state is painful despite states or region… There should be discussion on these issues in Parliament, Opposition Parties should not run from it…I request them with folded hands to take part in the discussion,” said Anurag Thakur.

As the proceeding of the initial two days of the Monsoon Session was affected due to uproar by Opposition parties, the businesses will begin tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Opposition parties demanded the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren and also appealed to impose President’s rule in the northeastern state.

The northeastern state is experiencing an ethnic crisis for the last 80 days over land issues. The tension in the state started escalating again after a video of two women belonging to the Kuki community being paraded stripped, assaulted and gang-raped by a mob in the violence-hit state went viral on social Media. As per the information, the incident took place at B Phainam Village on May 4.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union and state governments are facing massive backless from opposition parties and people across the country for being fail to handle the situation in Manipur.
