Man Trapped In 40-Ft-Deep Borewell Found Dead After 6-Hour Rescue Attempt

A person fell into a 40-foot borewell at a Delhi Jal Board plant, resulting in death despite rescue efforts by Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, and police. Efforts included parallel borewell excavation. Political figures expressed concern.

A person who fell into a 40-foot-deep borewell at a Delhi Jal Board plant near Keshopur Mandi was declared dead after rescuers brought out his body on Sunday. Teams from the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Delhi Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident earlier in the day. NDRF’s inspector-in-charge, Veer Pratap Singh, was also present at the scene.

After an extensive six-hour rescue operation, officials successfully retrieved the man’s body. His remains have been transferred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

Delhi Minister Atishi expressed her condolences on microblogging site X, stating, “With deep sorrow, I convey the news of the unfortunate demise of the man who fell into the borewell, as confirmed by the rescue team. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of God.”

The Vikaspuri police station was notified via a Police Control Room (PCR) call about the incident that occurred within the Keshopur Jal Board office on Saturday night. Fire Brigade and NDRF teams were summoned to the location, and efforts were underway to extract the individual. However, the identity of the person had not yet been confirmed, according to police officials.

In the meantime, the NDRF, leading the operation, brought a poclain machine to excavate a new borewell parallel to the one where the individual was reported to have fallen.

Expressing concern over the incident, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and West Delhi Candidate Kamaljeet Sehrawat dispatched a team of party workers from the West Delhi cadre to assess the situation.
