A Lieutenant Colonel, Ramendu Upadhyay, posted in Dehradun was incarcerated for committing an atrocity. The 42-year-old man, allegedly killed a woman, hailing from Silguiri by brutally smashing her head with a hammer. Moreover, to get rid of the body, he tossed it out next to a road at the roadside.

As per the officials, Ramendu was already married and had a two-year-old child. He met the 25-year-old woman, who worked at a dance bar, during his posting in West Bengal in the year 2020. Subsequently, he got involved in an illicit relationship with her and the two of them started living together as a ‘couple’ in Siliguri. Even after his posting in Dehradun in July, he continued seeing her. The accused then called her to Dehradun where his wife got to know about their relationship.

Lt Col Ramendu Upadhyay rented a flat in the city’s Clement Town area for the woman, who later started forcing him to marry her. As per SSP Daleep Singh Kunwar, the wife of the accused and the woman had a heated argument.

Following the conflict, the accused decided to get rid of his illegitimate partner. On Saturday, he took her out for a night out. After this, the two of them went for a long drive around Dehradun. When they crossed Thano forest, he thrashed her head with a hammer and dumped the body next to the road.

After heinously murdering the woman, he parked his vehicle and left. The incident came to light after the local residents discovered the body the following day and informed the cops about it. The police sprung into action, scanned the CCTV footage of the area and zeroed in on Upadhyay’s car.

The police authorities took him away from his house for the inquest on Monday during which he pleaded guilty of the crime. Kunwar further asserted that a case of murder has been registered against the Lt Col and he has been apprehended.
