Soon after being expelled from the Congress party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Sources indicated that the veteran leader Sanjay Nirupam is likely to join Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
Notably, after holding the post of Mumbai unit chief for the part six years, Nirupam was removed from the star campaigners list on Wednesday afternoon.

“Congress stalwart is all set to Join the CM Shinde led Shiv Sena faction ahead of the general elections”, Indian Express quoted sources as saying.
“He has opted to resign from the Congress party and intends to run for a seat in Mumbai, which is expected to be provided to him by the Shinde Sena”, they added.
on April 3, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has remarked on Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, stating, “His name was initially listed among the star campaigners, but it has now been revoked. Considering the nature of his recent statements, appropriate action will be taken…”.
The upcoming general elections are slated to take place into seven phases from April 19.
Former MP Nirupam has been criticizing the Uddhav Thackeray-led party ever since it announced its candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

The source of his dissatisfaction lies in the Mumbai North-West seat, which Nirupam desires to contest. However, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party has nominated Amol Kirtikar as its candidate for this seat.
Currently held by Shiv Sena’s Gajanan Kirtikar, who defeated Nirupam in the 2019 election, the seat has become a point of contention. Gajanan Kirtikar has aligned with Eknath Shinde after the Shiv Sena split, and in a strategic move, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party has nominated his son Amol for the seat.
