New Delhi: A day after announcing his resignation, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will give up membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with a “heavy-heart” nearly a month ahead of the 2023 Karnataka Assembly Polls.

On Sunday morning, the BJP veteran reached Sirisi in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka to tender his resignation as an MLA from Hubli-Dharwad Central Vidhan Sabha seat to the Speaker Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri.

Himiliated and Ignored: Shettar

Talking to media on Saturday, Shettar said he was humiliated and ignored. He said, “How the BJP leaders treated me in the last few days is nothing but a humiliation. I was ill treated by the party members which forced me to announce my resignation. Some leaders in the state are misusing the BJP system.”

Shettar’s statement comes in response to the party leadership’s advice that he should drop his name from the list for the upcoming elections to give chance to fresh candidates, which left after the loyalist upset who ended up giving an ultimatum to leave BJP after decades of alligience.
