IT dept acts against top Tamil film producer, raids 40 locations

Chennai: The income tax department is conducting raids against top Tamil film financier Anbu Chezhiyan’s residence and his properties. Income Tax officials have conducted raids at 10 places in Chennai and 30 places in Madurai since early morning.

The Income Tax department is also investigating the office of noted film producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu. Anbu Chezhiyan has been a cinema financier for Tamil films. The income tax department raided his house in T. Nagar, Chennai today.

A native of Madurai, he has produced some films under Gopuram Films, including Andavan Samayat, Marudu and Villiakkara Durai. He has also been a financier for several Tamil films.

Anbu Chezhiyan was born in Pommanendhal village in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu to a family of teachers. Later, he settled in Madurai and started financing film distributors in Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts on a small scale.

Apart from that, he was doing big finance in Madurai as well. At that time, he was also working with the AIADMK party.

IT raids at 40 places

The income tax department has been raiding the properties belonging to Anbu Chezhiyan since Tuesdsay morning. The Income Tax Department is conducting audits of more than 40 places.

Apart from properties belong to Anbu Chezhiyan, those owned by relatives are also being raided. These include 10 places in Chennai and 30 places in Madurai.

The Income Tax Department has conducted a search at Anbu Chezhiyan’s residence on Kamarajar Road, Madurai. In Madurai, the Income Tax Department officials are conducting a round-up raid at his office in Melamasi Road, Madurai, a house in Keerathurai area, Gopuram Theater in Sellur area.

The Income Tax Department is conducting a search at Anbuchezhiyan’s house in Nungambakkam Kamdar Nagar, Chennai. It is worth noting that based on the information received that the film IT Raid Bigil collected 300 crores of rupees in 2020, the Income Tax officials had conducted an income tax audit in the premises owned by AGS Cinema Company, actor Vijay and financier Anbu Chezhiyan, who had produced the film.

Also, at that time, money was recovered from the places belonging to Anbusechiya. 77 crores were confiscated. The Income Tax Department also released a report on tax evasion of crores. Raid at houses of Kalaipuli Thanu, SR Prabhu The Income Tax Department is raiding the office of famous filmmaker Kalaipuli S. Thanu in Chennai. 12 officers raided his office in Dinagar. It is noted that he has produced huge films including Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali and Dhanush-starrer Asuran.

Similarly, Income Tax officials are also conducting a search at the residence of producer SR Prabhu in Thenampettai, Chennai. Raid on Gnanavel Raja’s Office Income Tax officials have also raided the office of filmmaker Gnanavel Raja.
