It is certain that some Muslims must have come to India from foreign countries. Some Muslims may have served the Mughals but most of the Muslims became Muslims after converting from Hinduism, said Gulam Nabi Azad.
Religious conversion took place in Kashmir
Azad said that evidence of people converting to Islam about 600 years ago in Kashmir and mainly Kashmiri pandits were the prime population here. This prompts me to affirm that all people are initially born with a Hindu heritage.
“Be it Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, Brahmin, Dalit, Kashmiri, or Gujjar, we all are part of this motherland. Our roots are in this land and we will return to this soil even after the end of our life,” said a former Congress leader.
