New Delhi: India on Thursday condemned the resolution taken up by the European Parliament on Manipur violence. The nation adviced the latter of rather focusing on its own internal issues.
Answering to the media queries regarding the resolution over on-going ethnic clashes in an Indian state, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that “such interference in India’s internal affairs is unacceptable, and reflects a colonial mindset.”
“We have seen that the European Parliament held a discussion on developments in Manipur and adopted a so-called Urgency Resolution,” said the MEA spoksperson.
Through an official statement, the Indian ministry stated that it is aware of the situation in Manipur and putting al necessary efforts to tone down the rampant situation in the state.
Advices EU to look into their internal matters
“Indian authorities at all levels, including the judiciary, are seized of the situation in Manipur and are taking steps to maintain peace and harmony and law and order,” read the official statement.
Further in the statement, the ministry said, “The European Parliament would be well advised to utilize its time more productively on its internal issues.”
Manipur Violence
Earlier, the European Palriment took conginzance of the ethnic violence took place in Manipur that started in May, this year. Following which, over 100 has lost their lives while thousands many were injured.
During the violent altercation between two communities: Kukis and Meiteis, tens of thousands have to abandon their houses to safe themselves.
European Resolution
In the resolution, the European Parliament called the Manipur violence a result of “divisive policies promoting Hindu majoritarianism”.
This comes amid the two-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to one of the European country, France.
