Indira Gandhi Death Anniversary: ‘Won’t let India, for which you gave your life, crumble,’ says Rahul Gandhi

Indira Gandhi Death Anniversary: The Congress paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the anniversary of her death on Monday. The former Prime Minister’s grandson and Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the nationwide Bharat Jodo Yatra, paid her tribute and said he will not let the India for which she sacrificed her life fall apart.

Rahul Gandhi shared a tribute video and tweeted in Hindi, “Grandmother, I carry your love and values with me in my heart. I will not let the India for which you have given your life crumble.”

Floral tributes were paid to late Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal, her memorial, by the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, and other senior party leaders.

Newly-elected Congress President, in a tweet in Hindi, said, “On this day of martyrdom, I pay my respects to Indira Gandhi ji, India’s first female Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi’s contribution to making India a strong nation, whether in agriculture, the economy, or military power, is incomparable.”

The Congress said in a tweet from its official Twitter account that Indira Gandhi guided the country through its highs and lows, from the liberation of Bangladesh to the start of the Green Revolution.

“We salute her unyielding resilience and unwavering vision for the development of the nation,” the party said.

Indira Gandhi, the then-prime minister, was assassinated by two of her own security guards on this day in 1984.
