The countrymen, on this day, pay respect to the official language Hindi and organize many programs underlining its importance.

As the country celebrates Hindi Diwas, senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion.

PM Modi wrote, “Hindi has brought special honour to India all over the world. Its simplicity, spontaneity and sensitivity always attract.”

“On Hindi Diwas, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all those people who have contributed tirelessly to making it prosperous and empowered,” PM Modi said.

Union home minister Amit Shah said that the language “unites the whole nation in a thread of unity”.

“The official language Hindi unites the nation in the thread of unity. Hindi is the friend of all Indian languages.”

“The Modi government is committed to the parallel development of all local languages, including Hindi. I salute the great personalities who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of Hindi. Happy ‘Hindi Diwas’ to all,” Amit Shah added.

The grand old party Congress said that Hindi is “famous for the sweetness of its words”.

“Hindi, famous for the sweetness of its words, is making its mark all over the world today. Let us also come forward and do our duty towards our mother tongue by doing the work of spreading it. Happy Hindi Day to all of you,” the party’s Twitter handle tweeted.

“Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the state and Hindi lovers on ‘Hindi Diwas’. Hindi is not just a language but a unique symbol of Indian culture. It is a strong conductor of Indian values, values and ideals,” UP CM Yogi Adityanath tweeted.

“Greetings and best wishes to all the people of the state on Hindi Diwas. Hindi is an easily accessible language. Due to the simplicity of Hindi, it has played an important role in tying the country together. The qualities of Hindi place it as a culture above the status of a language,” wrote Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel in a tweet.

Hindi was adopted under Article 343

Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14 September to mark the popularity of Hindi as the official language of India. The language was adopted under Article 343 of the Indian Constitution. The first Hindi Day was celebrated on 14 September 1953.

Hindi is one of the major languages used in India as a larger portion of the country’s population knows and uses the language. Schools, colleges and other educational institutions celebrate Hindi Divas by organizing various events.

One more nation has adopted Hindi as the official language

Hindi is believed to be the only language of India but it is not so. Apart from India, Fiji, which is located in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean, has adopted Hindi as the official language.

It was occupied by the British, after which a large number of Indians had settled there and because of this, Hindi was declared as the official language there after independence.
