Love Jihad in Mahabharata: Once again Congress faced a backlash from BJP over its controversial statement on Love Jihad. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned Congress’s state unit chief Bhupen Borah over his controversial statement “love jihad happened in Mahabharata too”.

Addressing a media, Bhupen Borah said, “There was love jihad in the Mahabharata also. When Lord Krishna wanted to marry Rukmini, Arjun came in disguise of a woman.”

Himanta hits out at Borah and said Borah’s remark was against the Sanatan dharma.

Love Jihad

Himanta emphasized “To drag the topic of Lord Krishna and Rukmini is not acceptable. It is against Sanatan Dharma. I request Congress the way we should not drag Hazrat Muhammad or Jesus Christ into any controversy, the same way we should avoid dragging Lord Krishna into any controversy. Comparing god to criminal activity is not acceptable”.

Without mentioning the name of Bhupen, Assam CM said, “If someone files a case, we will have to arrest the person who has said this. If thousands of people of the Sanatan Dharma file complaint, I can’t save him.”

Himanta further added Lord Krishna never forced Rukmini to change her religion. Himanta requested Congress to avoid dragging god and Goddess into any controversy.

Himanta said that Love Jihad is not love. When a girl is married under the pretext of false identity and later is forced to change her religion. This is called Love Jihad.

Himanta further said, “If a Hindu marries a Hindu or a Muslim marries Muslim, society will be in order. I have always worshipped Hindu gods and goddesses, but if asked to read namaz tomorrow, how would I feel?”

He added that suppose an inter-faith marriage took place, one should not be compelled to choose other God or should force anyone to adopt other religion. It is against the Marriage Act.

“When we don’t follow the laws and cross the Lakshman Rekha, it becomes love jihad,” Himanta said.
