New Delhi: Election Commission on Wednesday issued show cause notices to Bhartiya Janata Party leader and star campaigner Basanagouda R Patil and Congress MLA Priyank Kharge after their statements given while the election campaign. 

Patil in a rally referred to former Congress President Sonia Gandhi as ‘Vish Kanya’ and Priyanka called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Nalayak Beta’. The EC has taken cognizance of both statements and demanded clarification from the leaders. 

Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s, While addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Gadag said, “Modi is like a poisonous snake, if you licked to test it, you will be dead”. 

“PM Modi is like a poisonous snake. You will wonder whether there is poison or not. But if you taste it, you will die again,” said Mallikarjun Kharge while Addressing an election rally in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district. 

In response to Kharge’s statement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal allegedly called Congress former president Sonia Gandhi a “Visha kanya” (venomous woman). 

Meanwhile, Congress President son Priyank Kharge called PM Modi a “Nalayak Beta” in Public Meeting.
