New Delhi: Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Rajendra Pal Gautam on Sunday resigned from his post.
The resignation comes after his presence at a religious event held recently in New Delhi.

After submitting his resignation, Gautam said, “Such an issue has been created out of oaths that are repeated by several crore people of the country. The BJP has made it an issue, are trying to insult me and my party.”

Gautam received criticism after his presence at a religious event earlier this week where hundreds of people allegedly denounced Hinduism and adopted Buddhism.
A video of the event, which later went viral, showed him attending the event on October 5 when hundreds took a pledge to convert to Buddhism and not consider Hindu deities as gods.
Following this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched an attack against AAP and demanded the dismissal of the minister.
