The recent directive from the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education highlights the necessity for private schools to seek approval before raising fees. Specifically, the letter emphasizes that private unaided schools, which have acquired land through government agencies, are required to obtain clearance from the Directorate of Education before adjusting fees, in accordance with Section 17 of DSER, 1917.
According to the communication sent by the Deputy Director of Education, heads or school managers of all recognized private schools that have acquired land from government agencies must submit a proposal for fee adjustments. Approval from the Directorate is a prerequisite for any fee increase. This entails that for the upcoming 2024-25 academic session, schools must submit online applications between April 1 and April 15. The letter explicitly states that incomplete proposals will not be entertained.

The Directorate of Education has underscored its commitment to investigating any complaints received regarding unauthorized fee hikes. School proposals will be scrutinized by officers or teams authorized by the Director. Schools failing to submit proposals as per this directive will be prohibited from adjusting tuition fees or any other charges until approval is granted by the Director of Education. Violations of these regulations will be treated seriously, and schools will be held accountable under statutory provisions.
