Cyclone Wreaks Havoc In West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri; Five Dead, Over 500 Injured

Severe winds, torrential rain, and hailstorms struck various areas of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal on Sunday, causing destruction to homes, structures, and agricultural fields. The natural disaster claimed the lives of five individuals and left over 500 others injured.

Several videos posted on social media depicted the chaos unleashed by the intense winds, heavy rainfall, and hailstorms in Jalpaiguri.

In the southeastern regions of Manipur and Jorhat in Assam, powerful winds and heavy rainfall lashed the area, resulting in extensive destruction to residences and agricultural fields. Authorities reported significant damage to numerous homes, as well as severe impact on livestock shelters and crops.

Rainfall and hailstorms have struck various areas of Manipur, resulting in damage to houses, buildings, and crops in Thoubal’s Sapam Leikai and Khongjom villages, as reported.

Last week, Manipur’s Senapati district was struck by a powerful hailstorm, which devastated homes and crops, leaving around 40 houses reduced to rubble, according to officials. This natural disaster has rendered hundreds homeless. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of further downpours in the state. Multiple news outlets have reported that the recent storm in Manipur caused numerous disruptions in power distribution across various regions. Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties or injuries. Locals witnessed robust winds tearing off and demolishing the roof of the government-run Tengkonjang Higher Secondary School.
