Nitish Kumar assumed the role of Bihar Chief Minister for the 9th time, resigning from the RJD-JD(U) government. Present at the oath ceremony were Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan, Samrat Chaudhary, and JP Nadda, amidst chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Jai Shree Ram. In 2022, Kumar last took the oath as chief minister after joining the Mahagathbandhan with the RJD, Congress, and Left alliance.

From 2022 to 2024, Nitish Kumar played a pivotal role in uniting opposition parties to collectively challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In June 2023, he convened the inaugural meeting of the opposition parties, even before the alliance acquired the name INDIA.

Earlier today, Nitish Kumar resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar, submitting his resignation letter to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Raj Bhavan. He officially announced his decision to resign during the Janata Dal (United) legislative meeting this morning.
Following Nitish Kumar’s resignation, the BJP promptly held discussions with its MLAs and MLCs and subsequently extended a letter of support to Nitish Kumar.
After submitting his resignation, Nitish Kumar informed reporters that he had requested the Governor to dissolve the Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar. He expressed dissatisfaction with the state of affairs within the Mahagathbandhan, which includes Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and three Left parties, stating that the situation had compelled him to step down.
