The former Congress President also paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, President Draupadi Murmu, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his samadhi Sadaiv Atal.

“Tributes to Atal Ji on his birth anniversary. His impact to India is tremendous. His vision and leadership inspire millions,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Several dignitaries, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, paid respect to the late Prime Minister.

Vajpayee was India’s Prime Minister from May 16, 1996 to June 1, 1996, and again from March 19, 1998 until May 22, 2004. He was also India’s Minister of External Affairs in Prime Minister Moraji Desai’s government from 1977 to 1979. He died on August 16, 2018 at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.

Following his election in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the 25th of December would be commemorated as Good Governance Day each year in order to recognise the former prime minister and Bharat Ratna recipient.
