Bengaluru: On Monday morning, a highly decomposed body with worms feeding on it was found in a rented room on the third floor of a house in Chandapura, southeast Bengaluru. The body was naked and covered with a blanket on the floor. A white powder-like substance and syringe were recovered from the floor.
The body belonged to a woman in her 20s who hailed from West Bengal and started living in that house in February. The owner Sangeth Gupta, is a techie who lives on the ground floor of the same house with her husband and has rented out the remaining floors.
She rented out a single-bedroom flat and an adjacent room on the third floor to Safan, a man from Odisha, in December. While Safan paid the rent and security deposit, he wasn’t seen in the accommodation until January when he came back and paid the monthly rent. He told the landlady that his wife was in his hometown and he would bring her soon.
The landlady questioned Safan on February 28 when she saw a man in his 40s and this lady in the rented room. The tenant mentioned that they are father-daughter and will vacate the place within three days.

On March 10, when the room was checked, the door was found open and a woman was lying covered with a blanket. Assuming that she was sleeping, the owners left. The very next morning, when a foul smell struck them, they went up to the room, it was then that they realized the woman was lying in the same position.
As the blanket was removed, a decomposed body of a female was found on which worms were feeding.
As per the statement given by the police, no injury could be studied so far as the body was badly decomposed. The autopsy report is awaited and the same will determine if she suffered physical assault or sexual abuse before death.

While this incident has jolted Bengaluru and the police are on rigorous investigation, no contact with the tenant or the acquaintance has been established so far. Their phones are switched off and the house owners have no identity proof from Safan.
