New Delhi: Back to being quiet on Bollywood! The November 4 debut of Janhvi Kapoor’s Mili barely succeeded in drawing audiences to the theatres. On Friday, it had a lacklustre box office debut. Mili had to compete with Sonakshi Sinha-Huma Qureshi’s Double XL and Phone Bhoot, starring Katrina Kaif.
Box Office Collection
The occupancy rate for Mili was as low as 10%. According to trade sources, Mili earned between Rs 45 and Rs 65 lakh.
According to Box Office India, “Mili and Double XL opened to horrible collections with Mili being better of the two. Mili and Double XL are both female orientated films and both in that concept / content zone which sometimes had takers before the pandemic but its a huge struggle today. These films are now for streaming but the problem is the streaming giants want a theatrical release so the films are just released for the sake of it when it is known they will not collect.”
Janhvi Kapoor plays the key character in the survival thriller Mili. In this production, Manoj Pahwa and Sunny Kaushal are seen in essential roles. The movie is a Hindi translation of the Malayalam movie Helen. Anna Ben portrayed the title character in the original production. For her performance, the actress was also given the Kerala State Film Award (Special Jury Award).
Boney Kapoor is the producer of the film, and Mathukutty Xavier, who oversaw the first film, is the director. The plot of Helen, which came out in 2019, received amazing reviews. At the 67th edition of the awards, the director also won the National Film Award for Best Debut Director.
