Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Examination released the results of class 11 and 12 exams on Wednesday (April 26, 2023). After receiving the result, Nine students took their own life.

This year, 10 lakh students appeared for the exam. In which, pass percentage in class 11 was 61, and 72 per cent in class 12.

9 students attempt Suicide

It is alleged that two further students made suicide attempts.

According to reports, a 17-year-old boy committed himself by jumping in front of a train in the Srikakulam district. After failing most of the papers, the intermediate first-year student from the district’s Dandu Gopalapuram village was said to be discouraged.

At her home in Trinadhapuram, within the jurisdiction of the Malkapuram police station, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide. She was allegedly disappointed after failing various subjects in the intermediate first year. She is from the Visakhapatnam district.

Another 18-year-old hanged himself at home in Visakhapatnam’s Kancharapalem neighbourhood. He had failed a subject in the second year of intermediate.

After failing the AP intermediate test, two 17-year-old students from the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh committed suicide. A kid in the same district passed away after swallowing a pesticide, while a student girl committed suicide by diving into a lake.

Another student, age 17, hanged himself to death at his Anakapalli home. Due to receiving poor grades in the intermediate first year, he was reportedly despondent.

Suicide on IIT campuses 

The disturbing announcement comes amid a spike in suicides at prestigious colleges in India. Four students at various Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses have reportedly committed suicide this year.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s concern

In February, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud voiced concern about reports of student suicides and stated his heart went out to the victims’ bereaved families. He added he was perplexed as to why students are being pressured to commit suicide by our universities.
