In fact, the court asked the company to submit proof of its legal actions, but Rapido failed to provide the material to the court. Hence the bike-taxi service was suspended.

Two wheeler passenger service closed till 20 January

The Bombay High Court has directed Rapido to discontinue its two-wheeler passenger service, two-wheeler parcel service and auto service.

Rapido had asked the Maharashtra government to grant it a license to operate two-wheeler bike taxis in the state, but its request was turned down as the state has not yet formulated a policy for operating only bike taxis. Please tell that the court has banned Rapido till 20 January.

The court also slammed the Maharashtra government for framing an unreliable policy allowing bike taxis in the state, while also seeking clarity on the policy or guidelines for two-wheeler taxi services.

Advocate General Birender Saraf, who appeared in the court on behalf of the government, claimed that prosecution has been initiated against other taxi services like Uber, which also have bike taxis. The court then told the government that it “cannot keep the issue hanging on fire and it has to take a decision immediately”.
