New Delhi: BMW has released the first set of details and pictures of its all-new 5 Series sedan. BMW’s new 5 Series now also gets an all-electric i5 line-up, similar to the i7 in the new 7 Series flagship sedan. The new BMW 5 Series line-up includes petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains apart from the all-electric i5.

Design

The styling of the new 5 Series G60 seems to have evolved a lot from the previous generation. The new 5 Series looks conventional like its predecessors, ditching the big grille or the outlandish split headlamp design but is recognizable as a BMW 5 Series through its styling. It looks very advanced. It gets sportier bumpers at both ends with flush-fit door handles, blacked-out inserts and sleek tail-lights like the 7 Series.

Dimension

The new 5 Series is 85 mm longer, 33 mm wider and about 35 mm higher and the wheelbase is 20 mm longer than its predecessor. Due to which the legroom of the rear seat can be available in it. It gets a drag coefficient of 0.23.

BMW 5 Series G60 Interior

The new 5 Series gets a new twin-screen cockpit, as seen in other new BMWs including the updated 3 Series, M2 and the new 7 Series. It gets a new iDrive 8.5 system. It has a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties.

BMW 5 Series G60 Global Platform, Powertrain

The cluster architecture platform has been given in the new 5 Series BMW. It can get ICE or electric drivetrain. The 5 Series global line-up includes the 520i, 520d and 520d xDrive models. Later, it will also include 530e and 550e xDrive plug-in hybrids. Apart from this, a 6-cylinder diesel engine can also be given in the future.

The entry-level 520i will get a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, the 520d a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 530e a plug-in hybrid 2.0-litre engine and the more powerful 550e plug-in hybrid 3.0-litre inline 6 cylinder with xDrive Engine will be available.

When will launch

The 8th-generation BMW 5 Series LWB is expected to be launched in India sometime next year. This car will compete with the Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan. In which a 2.0L and a 3.0L engine option is available.
