LNG is a form of natural gas that is generally used in heavy-duty trucks that must meet long-haul requirements. LNG is created by supercooling natural gas and its cryogenic storage in liquid form.
Since the gas is in liquid form, more fuel can be stored on board the vehicle, thus ensuring a longer range. Built by Blue Energy Motors, the 5528 4×2 truck features an industry-first 1,000 liter fuel tank that offers a range of 1,400 kilometers when full.
Commenting on the launch of LNG trucks on Indian roads for the first time, Bhuwalka said, “The first LNG truck in India that we have launched today is our first step towards pioneering a revolution in green trucking. We at Blue Energy Motors aim to decarbonize the environment by providing immediate solutions and breaking barriers to economic return.”
He added: “It is designed not only as an environmentally viable solution, but will also meet the business needs of customers. With almost zero tailpipe emissions, our truck will help reduce CO 2 by up to 30 percent compared to conventional solutions available on the market.
The Chakan manufacturing facility was inaugurated on September 3 in the presence of Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
