Zelensky says 'peace talks' with Russia tomorrow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed readiness on Sunday to engage in peace negotiations with Russia ‘tomorrow,’ contingent upon the withdrawal of Russian troops from his country. This statement followed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer of an immediate ceasefire if Kyiv relinquished control of four regions and abandoned its NATO aspirations.

During a press conference in Switzerland, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia could initiate negotiations with Ukraine immediately, without delay, upon withdrawing from Ukrainian territories recognized as legal. Zelensky emphasized that Russia’s reluctance for peace is an undeniable reality.

The actor-turned-lawmaker additionally remarked that the current extent of Western military assistance was insufficient to guarantee a Kyiv victory. He urged China to play a meaningful role in formulating peace initiatives.

‘Telling reporters, he said, ‘While there is aid and substantial packages, is it adequate for victory? No. Is it arriving late? Yes.’

Putin Pledges ‘Immediate’ Ceasefire Contingent on Zelensky-Led Ukraine

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed an ‘immediate’ ceasefire to Ukraine on Friday, despite Kyiv engaging in fierce battles in the Donetsk region and President Volodymyr Zelensky holding talks with world leaders at the G7 Summit. Ukraine swiftly rejected the ceasefire conditions as ‘absurd,’ while the US and NATO asserted that Putin lacked the authority to impose terms for peace.

The Russian leader claimed “as soon as Kyiv declares readiness for such action, initiates genuine troop withdrawals from these areas, and officially announces abandonment of NATO accession plans, Russia will immediately cease fire and commence negotiations.”
