New Delhi: Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky is likely to meet his US counterpart Joe Biden during his visit to the United States next week at the White House. US Media reported about the possible meeting between the two leaders.

As per the CBS News, Zelensky and Biden will also attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York together. Many US media houses claimed that Zelensky is expecting more US aid in order to counter the Russian invasion. In this regard, the two leader will also visit Capitol Hill.

West Donation

As of now, US stood firmly with the war-hit Ukriane and provided billions of dollars in weapons and aid to fund the Ukrainian military. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Ukraine last week to announce a new aid package worth more than $1 billion.

The aid included depleted uranium tank shells that the United States previously said would not be sent to Ukraine. Last month, Mr. Biden called on Congress to send an additional $24 billion to Ukraine.

Zelenksy is scheduled to deliver a speech to the general assembly while at the United Nations headquarters in New York. As per reports, the Ukrainian President likely to meet other visiting world leaders.

Israel Shows Interest

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday confirmed his intention to sit down with his Ukrainian counterpart on the sidelines of United Nations meetings. According to the BBC, there have been recent rumors in some circles that Washington is frustrated by the slow pace of Ukraine’s offensive.

Some US leaders are said to have criticized the way Ukrainian generals conducted the war, leading to tensions between the two countries. Since June, the territory Ukraine has gained in its counteroffensive has been minimal, but Ukrainian generals say they have breached Russia’s formidable first line of defense in the south.

How Will Zelensky Justify?

Analysts say the lack of major changes on the battlefield has increased pressure on Ukraine to justify its aid needs and made it harder for the country to persuade Western donors to continue providing supplies.

The visit also comes as a growing number of US Republicans – including several presidential candidates in 2024 – express opposition to continued aid to Ukraine. Presidents Biden and Zelensky last held face-to-face talks in Lithuania in July as part of a NATO summit.
