Yudh Abhyas 2022: Even as the military confrontation between India and China continues at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, there is worrying news for the Chinese.

India and the United States (US) are going to conduct joint military exercise Yudh Abhyas 2022 near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This military exercise is scheduled to be held from October 14-31 in Auli, Uttarakhand.

This will be the 18th edition of Yudh Abhyas between India and the US. Sources said complex exercises are being planned for the mega exercise. The last military exercise between the two countries was held in Alaska, USA in October 2021. Its purpose is to increase understanding, cooperation and activism between the armies of India and the US.

In the last few years, the defence ties between India and the US have become stronger. In June 2016, the US designated India as a ‘major defence partner’. Now this exercise is taking place in the backdrop of India’s border dispute with China in eastern Ladakh.

Many agreements signed between India and the US

India and the US have signed several important defense and security agreements in the last few years. Which includes the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement signed in 2016. Under this, the armies of both countries can use each other’s bases for repair and supply of weapons.

Apart from this, the Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) was also signed between the two countries in 2018. The COMCASA provides for inter-operation between the two armies. Under this, India will be able to buy top military technology from the US.

In October 2020, India and the US signed the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) agreement to boost bilateral defence ties. The agreement seeks to share high-end military technology, logistics and geospatial maps between the two countries.
