New Delhi: The presence of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leader was detected in the occupied West Bank two days ago. The Israeli army declared on Tuesday that it is sending more troops to the region around the beleaguered Gaza Strip in preparation for a potential invasion.
Additional artillery, engineers, infantry, armored, and special forces are being rushed to the area, according to Israeli army officials.
In the meantime, security officials met with Prime Minister Yair Lapid. According to a statement from his office, he spoke on the status of affairs in the South and potential developments.
“The security arrangements that we decided upon are necessary as temporary preparation measures,” Lapid said after the meeting.
“We will not accept a long-term situation in which terrorist organizations disrupt citizens’ lives,” he further added.
In the West Bank that is under occupation, the Israeli army launched a widespread arrest campaign. Bassam Al-Saadi, a well-known figure in the Islamic Jihad movement, was captured during this time.
