Quetta (Balochistan): A helicopter of the Pakistan Army has gone missing at Lasbela in Balochistan. The incident was confirmed by the Pakistan military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

The media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces (ISPR) said on Twitter that the helicopter was carrying the Pakistan Army’s 12 Corps Commander General Sarfaraz Ali and five other senior army officers who were monitoring the flood relief operations in Balochistan.

The tweet said, “An aviation helicopter of Pakistan Army which was on flood relief operation in Lasbela, Balochistan lost contact with ATC. There were six people on board, including Commander 12 Corps, who was supervising flood relief operations in Balochistan.”

Some Pakistan media reports said that the helicopter lost contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and is missing for over five hours. The search for the helicopter is continuing after the accident.

Notably, amid the ongoing floods in some parts of the country, the Pakistan Army launched rescue and relief efforts in the flood-affected districts of Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving thousands stranded across the country.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Balochistan has received “an unprecedented 467 per cent additional rainfall since July 1”.

In Balochistan, 29 districts have been affected by the recent rains, especially flash floods in Lasbela, Kech, Quetta, Sibi, Khujdar and Kohlu.
