New Delhi: In a crowded Gaza refugee camp, Israel claimed to have killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander on Sunday. This was the second time that Israel had targeted an individual since beginning its risky military onslaught. The ops are launched against the militant group shortly before the weekend.
Iran fire rockets at Israel
The possibility of the cross-border fighting developing into a full-fledged war remained high. This happened as the militant group supported by Iran firing hundreds of rockets at Israel in retaliation.
Hamas keeping a low profile
The governing Hamas organization in Gaza, which fought an 11-day war with Israel in May 2021, appeared to be keeping a low profile for the time being, possibly out of concern for Israeli retaliation and the potential loss of economic agreements with Israel, including Israeli work permits for thousands of Gaza residents, that support its authority.
Killed Islamic Jihad commander
An airstrike was launched on an apartment building in the Rafah refugee camp in southern Gaza on Saturday. It resulted in the death of the Islamic Jihad commander, Khaled Mansour.
Civilian lives lost
The attack also resulted in the deaths of five civilians and two additional militants. This bought the total number of Palestinian fatalities to 31. Since the start of the Israeli offensive on Friday. Four ladies and six children were among the deceased. More than 250 people have been injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, since Friday.
Israel claims misfire
Israel claims that some of the fatalities were brought on by an errant rocket fire. It refered to an incident that left six Palestinians dead on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Jebaliya refugee camp located in northern Gaza.
Two people were killed on Sunday when a missile in the same Jebaliya neighborhood struck a residence. Both of them were male residents of the camp. Israeli officials claimed they were investigating whether the neighborhood was stuck by a misfired rocket. Meanwhile, the Palestinians have blamed Israel for the attack.
