Classified Document case:  The trail of US former President Donald Trump in the classified document case will begin from May 20 next year. The Federal Judge who was looking the case on Friday fixed the date of trail, New York Times reported.

It is noted that the US government wanted to start the proceeding in December and Trump wanted to push the trail after the 2024 election. So this decision is a sort of middle way for both the parties’ desires. The case alleges Trump of illegally retaining classified documents.

According to the New York Times, Judge Aileen M Cannon ordered that the trail was to be held at her residence courthouse in Fort Pierce, Fla a city which two-and-half hours north of Miami that will draw its jury pool from several parts of country that former president won handily in his two previous campaigns.

Judge Canon also made hearing calendar, throughout the remainder of this year and the next year.

The trail hearing came after the argumentative hearing on Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Fort pierce where lawyers work on the special counsel. Jack Smith and Lawyers of Trump debated over the trail date.

The Justice Department declined to comment on Judge Cannon’s decision. But it did not come as a surprise to prosecutors, who set their initial, aggressive timetable expecting that she would select a date, probably sometime in the first half of 2024, and reject the Trump legal team’s request to push it past the election, according to a person familiar with the situation.

In a 38-count indictment filed last month by Smith’s office, the former president was charged with illegally holding on to a trove of 31 documents containing sensitive national security information in violation of the Espionage Act.

Scheduling the time of proceeding in Trump’s classified document case is the first important decision for Judge Cannon. It is also note that she was appointed by Donald Trump in 2020. She was randomly assigned the Case in June. She also faced broad scrutiny after making some rules last year related to the case, The New York times said.
