A dramatic moment unfolded in Wilmington as a car collided with a Secret Service vehicle within Joe Biden’s motorcade. The startling incident occurred as the US president departed his campaign headquarters in Delaware.

Following a loud impact between a sedan and an SUV near Biden, security personnel swiftly escorted the president into another vehicle, promptly evacuating him from the downtown Wilmington location.

Assuring everyone’s safety, a White House official confirmed, “Both the president and first lady are fine,” to an AFP reporter present at the scene.

Providing details, Secret Service spokesperson Special Agent Steve Kopek explained, “Today, at approximately 8:09 pm (0109 GMT), a Secret Service vehicle securing the president’s motorcade route was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington.” He emphasized that there were no security concerns associated with the incident, and the motorcade proceeded without further trouble.

Before the collision, pool reporters had been gathered outside the campaign offices where Biden and First Lady Jill Biden had dinner with staff. The crash interrupted their interaction with Biden, who appeared surprised by the noise.

Reacting swiftly, agents encircled the silver car, displaying weapons as the driver raised their hands in response.

With the situation under control, staff quickly ushered reporters to join the departing motorcade, amidst a rainy atmosphere and a clear sense of urgency. “They’re evacuating, you guys gotta go,” urged a staffer, emphasizing the need for a swift departure.

Biden safely reached his family home without any subsequent incidents.
