New Delhi: The governing body for civil aviation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has amended its regulations regarding boarding procedures for people with disabilities and limited mobility (Divyangjan).

DGCA said in its statement, ”The proposed amendment has been carried out at Para 4.1.35 of the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) which is as follows: “Airline shall not refuse carriage of any person on the basis of disability and/or reduced mobility….”

As per DGCA, a passenger’s health must be evaluated by a doctor if the airline believes it may deteriorate in flight.

The medical condition of the patient will then be definitely stated by the doctor, along with whether or not they are fit to fly. The airline will make the appropriate judgement on the boarding of such individuals following the medical check.

”In case of refusal of carriage by the airline, it shall inform the passenger in writing with the reasons therein immediately,” added DGCA in its amendment.
