Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government announced free treatment in public hospitals, which will be launched on August 15. The decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting. The hospitals include Primary Health centres, Rural Hospitals, Women’s Hospitals, District General Hospitals, Upazila hospitals, Super Specialty Hospitals, and Cancer Hospitals
Officials said, “Primary health centres, rural hospitals, women’s hospitals, district general hospitals and super speciality hospitals will treat patients free of cost in the state.”
The Maharashtra government has taken a significant step by announcing a free health insurance scheme for all its citizens. The scheme, likely to be launched on August 15, will provide free-of-cost treatment at 2,418 hospitals and medical centres run by the state government. These facilities cater to more than 25.5 million people.

Additionally, cancer hospitals in Nashik and Amravati will also offer treatment free of cost under this scheme. However, it’s worth noting that hospitals and medical colleges under the Medical Education Department are not included in this initiative. The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Health Minister Sawant and attended by various officials from different departments, including Health and Home.
This initiative comes amid the coronavirus outbreak, making Maharashtra the first state in India to implement such a comprehensive healthcare plan for its citizens.
