Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of all important historical event that fall on a specific day so that none of the major historical events are missed.’Today’s History’ will look into the significant historical events and major happenings on that particular day of year.

On August 31, following events took place:

1919: Novelist Amrita Pritam was born

Amrita Pritam was an Indian novelist, essayist and poet, who wrote in Punjabi and Hindi. A prominent figure in Punjabi literature, she is the recipient of the 1956 Sahitya Akademi Award. Her body of work comprised over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography that were all translated into several Indian and foreign languages.

1969: Former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath was born

Javagal Srinath is a former Indian cricketer and currently an ICC match referee. He is considered among India’s finest fast bowlers, and is the first Indian fast bowler to take more than 300 wickets in One Day Internationals

1983: IAS officer Ira Singhal birthday

Ira Singhal is an Indian Administrative Service officer and computer science engineer. She was the highest-scoring individual in the UPSC’s Civil Services Examination for the year 2014. She completed her B.Tech. from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, University of Delhi and MBA from FMS Delhi. Singhal topped the exam in her fourth attempt, to become the first differently abled woman to top the civil services exam.

2022: Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is celebrated as birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh. On this day, Lord Ganesh is worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
