We’re used to odd and hazardous viral trends on social media. Recently, a new viral trend involving young men and boys giving up shampoo as part of their hair care routines is becoming more and more popular in this world of the internet. Using hashtags like #Noshampoo, several males have joined the movement and are promoting the advantages of forgoing shampoo.

As the name implies, the idea is that instead of using shampoo, people should wash their hair with merely water or in different ways. Many people think that regular shampoos, which contain chemicals, deplete their hair’s natural oils, making it seem greasy and lifeless.
Ambassador of the trend
Influencer Humza Islam Lam is one of the most well-known faces of the no-shampoo trend. He taught his followers how to quit using shampoo in a video he put online last year.
In the video, Mr. Lam promoted “hair training,” which is effectively “training” your scalp and hair to only require infrequent washings. “My hair feels thicker and I haven’t experienced any hair loss,” he said to The New York Post. Every other day, I rinse my hair with water instead of using shampoo. Every week, I also use apple cider vinegar for my hair.
While some people use distilled Castile soap, baking soda, and a host of other unconventional techniques, I use water and apple cider vinegar. Any of them when combined with a thorough scalp massage eliminates the majority of daily dust and dirt. He said, “Unless you’re constantly getting motor oil in your hair, the average person doesn’t need the shampoo.”
What do experts say about the shampoo trend?
Experts have chimed in on the trend, cautioning against shampooing without washing your hair because it might aggravate existing scalp issues, lead to dandruff, and irritate your scalp.
The journal Skin Appendage Disorders published a 2021 study revealing that individuals who wash their hair less frequently are more likely to experience hair loss.
