Karnataka: A man orders an iPhone from online retailer Flipkart and receives a ‘Nirma’ detergent bar. District Consumer Disputes Redressal Committee of Koppal has ordered to all Flipkart dealers to pay 25,000 in compensation for service defects and unscrupulous business practices, causing physical and mental agony to customers.
A man named Harsha S, a student from Koppal, paid Rs 49,000 for iPhone in 2021. He was surprised to find a small keypad phone and 140 grammes of “Nirma” detergent soap inside the package when he opened it.
The commission added that businesses have obligations to their customers even after the product has been sold, which means they cannot usurp consumer money by sending incorrect items or products or defrauding customers.
The commission ordered Flipkart and its retail sellers to pay compensation of Rs. 10,000 for inadequacy in service and unfair trade practises; Rs. 15000 for mental anguish, physical harassment, and the cost of a lawsuit for the consumer; and Rs. 48,999 phone price to be refunded in full within eight weeks.
