A Californian man named Stewart Lucas Murrey has initiated legal proceedings against approximately 50 women for labeling him a ‘bad date’ on a Facebook page dedicated to sharing dating experiences. As reported, Murrey has filed a lawsuit aiming to obtain $2.6 million in damages from the women who, in his view, posted unfavorable reviews about him.

The Facebook group “Are We Dating The Same Guy” operates as a forum where women can exchange advice and cautionary tales regarding individuals they have dated who may pose risks or display concerning behavior. The group consists of location-specific pages throughout the United States, tailored to various cities, providing a platform for women to share their experiences and offer support to one another.

The women have alleged that Stewart’s legal action is an attempt to intimidate them, and they assert that they have urged the courts to dismiss his claims.

“My heart started pounding, as I thought: this man knows where I live,” recounted a woman. She further stated that the first time she encountered the man in person was when he arrived at her residence to deliver the lawsuit.

Stewart asserted that the women he sued had posted false allegations about him on the platform, which resulted in significant harm to his dating life and reputation, as reported.

On Monday, a judge in Los Angeles civil court ruled that one of the women, Vanessa Valdez, had not committed any wrongdoing by expressing her opinions about Stewart on the Facebook group.

One of the defendants, Olivia Berger, has disclosed that the majority of the women targeted by Stewart had not actually met him in person. Some had merely interacted with posts about Stewart, such as liking or reacting to them, without any personal acquaintance.

Following the court’s decision, the women who were sued by Stewart are hopeful that a rule will be established to prevent him from using the legal system against them in the future.

This lawsuit is not the first of its kind involving the “Are We Dating The Same Guy?” Facebook group. Previously, a man from Chicago also filed a defamation lawsuit against members of the group in his city.
