Bengaluru: A couple named Nidhi Singh and her husband Shikhar Veer Singh earn much more than expected by selling “samosas.” To start their own business, the couple left their well-paying jobs and sold their house.
How it all started
Both met in college while they were pursuing a B.Tech. in biotechnology. Later Shikhar pursued MTech from the same institute, the Institute of Life Sciences in Hyderabad. Before he left the job in 2015, he was the Principal Scientist at Biocon.
However, Nidhi was on a different journey, she entered the corporate world and was very successful; her salary package at a pharmaceutical company in Gurugram was Rs 30 lakh. Her initial salary as a Business Development Associate was Rs 17, 000.
Nidhi and Shekhar quit their jobs in 2015 after five years of marriage and opened “Samosa Singh” in Bengaluru the following year. According to media reports, the couple currently earns Rs 12 lakh per day.
The idea came to Shekhar’s mind while he was studying but her wife didn’t supprted him and advising him to concentrate on becoming a scientist.
However, after seeing a boy crying for samosas at a food court one day, Shikhar was convinced that his hunch was correct and that samosas were India’s most popular snack. He quit his job and relocated to Bengaluru, where they opened ‘Samosa Singh’. Later, the two added several creative samosas to their menu. Butter chicken and kadai paneer samosas are two of their most popular dishes. They are now looking to grow their business.
All the scientific research into the making of the best Samosas and concocting different varieties of this snack proved worth the effort – today their brand Samosa Singh, is sold from 80 locations in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Nashik, Mysore, Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune, is the fastest growing Indian fresh snacking cloud kitchen brand.
Their company grew at an exponential rate, just as they predicted. According to media reports, they sell 30,000 samosas per month and have a turnover of Rs 45 crore. This equates to a daily salary of nearly Rs 12 lakh.
