Taking strict action, Air India has expelled the pilot who flew a flight from abroad to India after consuming alcohol. The pilot’s alcohol consumption was confirmed through a breath analyzer (BA) test conducted after the plane landed in India. The Tata Group airline is also planning to file an FIR against the captain. It is noteworthy that after the Phuket-Delhi flight arrived in Delhi last week, a breath analyzer test was administered to the crew member.

Air India pilot suspended
Regarding this matter, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated, “We do not tolerate such actions and take rigorous measures. Not only has the pilot’s employment been terminated, but an FIR will also be lodged against them. Flying under the influence of alcohol constitutes a criminal offense”.
In the first six months of 2023, 33 pilots and 97 cabin crew members failed their breath analyzer test. Pilots and cabin crew operating domestic flights must undergo BA testing before flying. Alcohol is neither served nor sold on flights within India. Crew members are required to undergo BA testing after flights arriving from abroad.
Failing the test for the first time results in a three-month suspension of the license. A second offense leads to a three-year license suspension for the same individual. On the third occasion, the license is canceled.
