The Election Commission has officially announced the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, the Election Commission has also disclosed the dates for Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. This announcement comes as the current Lok Sabha’s term approaches its conclusion on June 16th. The Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted a press briefing in New Delhi, and streamed it live on various social media platforms as well.
The elections for the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh will take place in 7 phases beginning from 19th April.

The Election Commission also shared all the information in a document format for people to seek clarification on the dates of polling for their respective Parliamentary Constituencies
This election season, India, the country with the largest population, boasts 970 million voters who will play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the elections. Moreover, there are 18.2 million voters who will be participating in the electoral process for the first time. Around 10.5 million polling stations, 15 million election officials, and 5.5 million Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are prepared for operation during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Regional and national parties have already started announcing their candidates for their elections. As of now, the BJP has issued two lists comprising a total of 267 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress has unveiled two lists naming 82 candidates.
Message From The CEC
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) also emphasized on an increase in voter participation, particularly among women. In 12 states, the number of women voters surpasses that of men, according to the CEC’s statement.
CEC Rajiv Kumar also spoke about how they will prevent fake news from circulating. “We will verify facts and check the fake news that is being circulated. We will launch on our website, Myths vs Reality where the EC will educate the voters about the reality” said CEC Kumar.
