New Delhi: The number of users on Threads App, a new social media platform launched as a rival to Twitter, has crossed 90 million users in just a few days. Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta launched this app on Wednesday for iOS and Android users in 100 countries. It is currently the top app on the App Store. It is believed that very soon the total user base of this app will cross 100 million.

Threads app

Meta-owned Instagram has launched a new social media platform called Threads. After the launch of this app, 20 lakh users signed up in just two hours. This figure reached one crore in seven hours, three crore in 12 hours and seven crore by Friday. Many new features have been added to it now and many new updates will be released soon.

Threads has also launched a beta program for Android keeping users in mind. The new app currently doesn’t have many features like direct messaging, “following” feed, full web version, chronological feed. It is believed that very soon this app can become a big threat to Twitter.

Speaking on the vs Threads controversy, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that Meta does not want to replace Twitter. Instead, he wants to create a public platform on Instagram for the community that never adopted Twitter.

And, who want to adopt that platform for dialogue, where there is not much controversy. He said that this platform will not focus only on breaking news and world events.

Mosseri posted on the threads, writing, “Politics and hard news will inevitably appear on threads on Instagram to some degree. But, we are doing nothing to encourage those verticals.” Mosseri said politics and hard news are important. He doesn’t want to focus on it. “I believe that from a platform’s perspective, politics and hard news can increase post count or revenue, but there is also a risk associated with reviews, negativity, and authenticity,” Mosseri said.

“Given all that was going on, we thought there was an opportunity to build something that was open and something that catered well to the community that was already an Instagram user,” he said.
