New Delhi: A Tata Nelco group company has applied for a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license. Let us tell you that Tata is the fourth such company in India on whose behalf an application has been filed for satellite mobile broadband services.
Before Tata, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio applied for OneWeb satellite service. The application was also filed on behalf of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite service. Although Elon Musk’s satellite service was not approved by the government.

Tata Group’s Nelco has shown off a demonstration of high-speed broadband internet connectivity in which high-speed connectivity will be provided via a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. What is satellite connectivity
In this technology, the customer’s mobile phone is directly connected to the signal from the satellite. Requires no tower. In this technology, the internet is transmitted through some satellites in low earth orbit.
However, the satellite connectivity signal cannot be received on a regular phone. For this, some changes need to be made in the smartphone hardware.
Currently, the satellite connection feature has been given to the iPhone 14 series smartphones. The service is currently available in the US and Canada.
Note – Satellite connection is not a new system. Previously, satellite connectivity was used for military and other purposes. In the past, however, speed played a role. But now companies provide fast satellite connections through hardware and software updates.
