Tata to manufacture Apple iPhone: Tata Group, renowned for its diverse range of products, is set to enter the smartphone market by signing a deal to acquire Apple manufacturer Wistron’s factory in India. This deal will bring the much-anticipated truly “Made by India” Apple iPhones to customers in the country while potentially addressing the issue of rising iPhone prices. Apple plans to launch two new smartphones from the iPhone 15 series this year.

The Arrival of Made by India iPhones

From steel to software, Tata Group is expanding its expertise to include iPhone manufacturing. Bloomberg reports that Tata Group has acquired Wistron Corp, a Taiwanese company, and has received orders from Apple to produce iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. The takeover of the Wistron Corp factory in southern Karnataka state, valued at over $600 million, marks the successful conclusion of approximately a year of negotiations. The factory currently employs more than 10,000 workers who assemble the latest iPhone 14 models.

Advantages of the Tata-Apple Deal

Tata Group’s entry into iPhone manufacturing in India brings several benefits. Firstly, it is expected to expedite the delivery of the first iPhone 15 series devices. Secondly, by localizing production, iPhones imported from outside the country will likely face reduced tax burdens. This move will not only accelerate production but also potentially make iPhones more affordable for Indian consumers.

Tata Group: The Fourth iPhone Assembler

With this deal, Tata Group is set to become the fourth iPhone assembler for Apple, joining the ranks of Foxconn, Luxshare, and Pegatron. While Tata Group’s share in iPhone 15 series production is estimated to be around 5%, the majority stake will remain with other manufacturers. This strategic move showcases Apple’s intent to diversify its production base and reduce reliance on China.

iPhone 15 Series Launch and Availability

The highly anticipated iPhone 15 series is rumored to launch in September this year. The series is expected to include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. These devices may be available at Apple’s recently opened Delhi Saket Apple Store and Mumbai BKC retail store, bringing the latest iPhones directly to Indian consumers.
